NIPS, first Nigerian conference of World’s Poultry Science Association (WPSA)

1st Nigerian International Poultry Summit, Ota, Ogun State, IBADAN

The first Nigerian International Poultry summit was held on February 20th to 25th 2005 at the Temperance Hotel, Otta, Ogun State in Nigeria.

Conference was divided in 5 main topics:

Poultry genetics and breeding
Family poultry and water fowl
Nutrition-feeds-feeding and physiology
Poultry health and bio security
Poultry products and processing

The Conference was opened by president of the Nigerian branch of WPSA, Prof. Sonaiya (Dept. of Animal Science, OAU, Ile-Ife). All other “captains” of Nigerian agriculture and Poultry industry were also presented. The main representative of European Branch was Prof. D. Flock, president of the European Branch.

21 lectures presented different topics, most of them in nutrition section; about 7 lectures presented in other sections. This first Nigerian conference was very well organised and the place for conference was very pleasant including good accommodation facilities, the internet café place was available for the whole time of the Conference. Along with the Conference ran Poultry exhibition where a lot of Nigerian and foreign companies were presented.
